Strategic Partnership for Sponsorship
and Social Enterprise at VICODEC
Joseph Wachira had a vision for building a holistic educational center to serve children of the impoverished Nairobi slums. Additionally, Wachira established adult education, targeting the parents of the community to impart vocational skills so they can provide for their families.
The school benefits from a collaboration between Kenya Works and Appleton, WI-based US Venture which sponsors hundreds of students at VICODEC each school year.

Kenya Works saw the opportunity to build a social enterprise on the VICODEC campus through the Makini Pad Initiative. Kenya's best reusable sanitary pads are made here, and distributed to impoverished girls throughout the country, addressing the issue of period poverty while creating workforce opportunities for parents of the VICODEC community.
