Zero Tolerance for FGM Every Day of the Year

Feb. 5 marked the 12th annual International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM.

Female genital mutilation (FGM) harms girls’ bodies, dims their futures and endangers their lives. Rooted in gender inequality and power imbalances, FGM is a cultural right of passage in various Kenyan communities, symbolizing that a girl has transitioned to womanhood and is ready for marriage. This gender-based violence is largely perpetrated against girls aged 10 - 15.

Kenya Works is actively working against this human rights violation 365 days a year. We won’t rest until all girls are safe in their communities and afforded equal rights.
