Summit 2026: Leadership for Change

Kenya Works held its third annual Menstrual Health & Hygiene Summit on May 22nd at the Kenya Works Campus in Ongata Rongai under the theme “Together for a Period-Friendly World.” The event attracted 218 participants representing 169 organizations including government partners, educators, health professionals, youth leaders, and disability advocates focused on eliminating period poverty.

As a member of Kenya’s National Menstrual Health Technical Working Group, the organization positioned the summit as a precursor to Kenya’s National Menstrual Hygiene Day. A significant moment was unveiling the Makini Period Panty, a locally manufactured reusable product offering girls and women an affordable, sustainable menstrual management option.

Makini Pads in Classrooms: Period Power in Practice

Simultaneously, the Future4Binti Project (supported by Amref and Plan International) conducted activities at Embolei Primary School. Seventy-six girls received Makini reusable pad kits while fifty boys received boxers for personal hygiene support.

“Before Makini, I stayed home and felt ashamed when my period came. Now I can come to school, sit with confidence, and not worry the whole day.”
